Everybody Is Doing It!

"Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished." (Proverbs 16:5).

God’s people need to hear the wake up call of the Holy Ghost. "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof." (Romans 13:11-14).

We are living in a day when folks are trying to justify sin by saying, "everyone is doing it," as if that makes it alright and that it is no longer sin. Even God’s people are getting caught up in many of these things, and because we are slumbering we are consenting unto many of these things by our silence.

Lying is looked upon so lightly anymore, that we make fun of it, instead of grieving over it and condemning it. Everyone expects politicians to lie, when in fact we should expect them to tell the truth and hold them accountable when they do lie. The problem with this lying to get gain for yourself, is that the children pick up on that very fast. I have heard of some Christians who have said that "it is alright to lie for your own gain." I wonder where they get that? They have forgotten that God is a God of truth, and God hates lying. He not only hates it as He does every sin, but He has made it clear that "… all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone …" (Revelations 21:8).

Another sin which is being accepted by many churches is fornication, or the act of two unmarried people living together out of wedlock. We have forgotten what God has said about marriage and whoremongers. The inspired writer of Hebrews said, "Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." (Hebrews 13:4). How can we wink at something God has condemned? Not only are we failing to declare that fornication and adultery is sin, but we are failing to uphold and contend for the sanctity of God ordained marriage. And at the same time we are failing to warn sinners of God’s impending judgment for that sin. Even our government has encouraged this sin by some of their bureaucratic tax laws and laws dealing with Medicare and social security. In other words, by these laws the government makes it cost more to be married than to live together out of wedlock. God’s people should always reject sin no matter how attractive Satan can make it look.

God’s people need to wake up and reject these new ideas and get back into the Old Book, the Bible. Whatever God has called sin, it is still sin. No matter how many years go by, or how the generations change, or governments change laws, God’s Word is still the final authority for what is right and what is wrong. We need to continually keep in mind that "All unrighteousness is sin …" (I John 5:17).
